Devastating floods, earthquakes and tsunamis are some examples of natural disasters. Nothing will save us fromthe ravages of storms, devastating floods, landslides and earthquakes. In fact, nothing will save people anywhere in the world from the ravages of nature. Natural disasters take place naturally, and they are caused by soil erosion, seismic activity, air pressure, and ocean currents.
Most Children will be able to cope with it. Although some Preschoolers, Elemantary school children who cannot will likely to have this symptoms: Thumb sucking, clinging to parents, loss of apetite, withdrawal from friends, activities and routines, irritability, aggresiveness, sleeping disturbances, poor concentration and physical complaints.
Lives and houses are lost because of natural disasters. I will try my best to to help thoses who need help those who need help, because I can't go overseas.

Rain is very important for life because it brings us the water we need. However, because of pollution, the rain is becoming more dangerous for every living creature. This kind of rain is known as acid rain.

Acid Rain is caused by sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxide released from factories to the air, or pollution. A lot of this pollution comes from
power plants that burn coal, to make electricity. We use this electricity to make our lights and our TVs work. Pollution can also come from the cars and trucks people drive. When the chemical is released into the air, they mix with the cloud which will cause acid rain.

Acid Rain damages the environment. For trees and plants, the acid takes away important minerals from the leaves and the soil. Without them, trees and plants will be too weak to fight against illnesses. Acid rainwater soaks into the soil and flows into lakes. Some of the life in the lakes such as fish and plants may also end up dying because they cannot survive in acidic lakes. Beside these, acid rain also affects our health. When we breathe in acid air pollution, we can have breathing problems and over time can cause asthma or cancer. Other than living things, acid rain can also ruin buildings and metal objects because the acid “eats” into stone and metal. This will cause corrosion or rust formation when they are left outdoor.

The US Environment Protection Agency (EPA) execute the Acid Deposition Control Program to reduce the emission of sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxide. They make use of alternate energy sources such as solar energy and wind energy, to make electricity.

In order to stop the formation of acid rain, I will turn off the lights in empty rooms, not use the air conditioner, tell my parents to install fluorescent light bulb instead of incandescent light bulbs. When the distant to a place is short, I will walk or ride a bicycle instead of taking a vehicle.

Drug Addiction by Thiruben

This is a lump of Methamphetamine which is also knwn as 'ice' and 'crystal meth'. It can cause aggresive behaviour, depression and diziness. It can be smoked or injected. The rashes on the man's hand is caused by heroin. Heroin also causes pneumonia, euphoria and dryness in mouth. It can only be injected.
Drug addiction happens when someone is unable to stop taking drugs. Drugs can be taken in many ways. It can be inhaled, injected or eaten orally. These are just some ways of taking drugs. Some types of drugs available are Cocaine,Heroin,Marijuana,Ecstasy and Methampetamine which is also known as 'ice' or 'crystal meth.

In young people curiosity, peer pressure and influence of home environment are the common causes. Others believe they can control their drug usage, but soon drugs will take over their lives.
When people hear the word drug addiction they normally have negative reactions to it.
Signs and symptoms of drug abuse can be physical, behavioral, and pyschological.

In Singapore, the Central Narcotics Bureau is the major drug enforcement agency. One of their project is the 'Yellow Ribbon Project' This project creates awareness to give a second chance to ex-offenders. It also helps to accept the ex-offender and their family into the cmmunity.

As the future of Singapore, I will choose not to abuse drugs and will stop anyone I know from taking it.

This is how CFCs destroy ozone.

Many poor penguins can die from being exposed to ultraviolet rays.

Ozone depletion

Most people know that ozone is the O3 layer that surrounds our Earth, but they may not realize that there is a giant hole in the ozone just above the Antarctic.

The ozone layer had holes even before the 1970s, when people started using CFCs (chlorofluorocarbons) and HCFCs (hydro chlorofluorocarbons).
It depleted the ozone so much that when scientists measured the ozone in September 13 2007, they found a 24.7 million square km hole in it!

The ozone layer protects us by shielding 93-99% of the Sun’s harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays. Without ozone protection, the UV rays can pass through skin et cetera and attack DNA.

We can save the ozone layer by stopping deforestation and decreasing the amount of moisture let into the atmosphere. Some organizations are dedicated to saving the ozone layer. ‘The Ozone Hole’ is one of them.

Save the ozone, save our future.

Deforestation by Fong Khi Yung

Deforestation is the clearing of forests by burning or cutting down trees due to overpopulation, agricultural needs and urbanization. We need space to build houses for the growing population, factories for production and land for agriculture. However, we have failed to see the harmful effects caused by deforestation.

Though deforestation allows us to urbanize and develop, thus bringing more wealth to the country, animals in the forest will lose their homes or may face extinction. The deforested area will become hotter and this may contribute to global warming. There will be more carbon dioxide and less oxygen after deforestation.

Several agencies like the United Nations and World Bank are looking into this issue. They give money to encourage developing countries to limit or roll back deforestation. New farming methods are developed to maximize land usage.

I strongly believe that trees are important to us. Let us save the trees!

Global Warming By Darren Sim

Global warming is a case when greenhouse gases are released into the atmosphere. What happens during Global warming? During Global warming, the release of greenhouse gases makes the earth warmer. Factories release lots of greenhouse gases when they use electricity which is made from burning oil. Burning coal and fossil fuels produce greenhouse gases. Deforestation adds on to Global warming as burning down trees not only produce greenhouse gases, but also reduce the number of trees that could take in greenhouse gases for making food. Greenhouse gases trap heat on our planet and not allowing them to escape, like a greenhouse. Some animals like the polar bear are near extinction because of global warming. The heat melts the ice caps and therefore the polar bears lose their home. Global warming is destroying our planet rapidly. Copenhagen is affected badly. We all need to do our part to save earth. Reuse, reduce and recycling is a great way to tackle deforestation. Using less electricity can help reduce the number of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. If possible, you could start your very own garden and get fresher air to breath everyday! We must all do our part to save planet earth!!! Copenhagen is affected very seriously. In such cases, the ground will dry up.

Global Warming by Tai Tze Kin

Global warming is an increase in the global surface temperature resulting from enhancement of the greenhouse effect by air pollution. The greenhouse gases make the sun's rays bounce from the atmosphere back to earth causing the earth to become hotter and hotter.

This picture shows the air pollution caused by factories.
URL: http://www.associatedcontent.com...ngs.html

This shows how the greenhouse gases cause the sun's rays to bounce back to earth.
Global warming leads to hotter temperatures for everyone and everything. It makes the ice melt in Antarctica and the animals there would lose their home.

This picture shows the ice melting and the polar bears losing their home.

This picture shows that the ice melted and the polar bear is standing on grass.

The heat makes everyone turn on their fans and air conditioners leading to more global warming. You should reduce, reuse and recycle to to make less global warming.

This picture shows things that you should and should not do.
It might be too late to stop global warming but there is still time to slow it down. The effects can be decreased if we do one thing-limit the amount of carbon dioxide used in the earth. In this way, we will live long and prosper.
